Cafetiere Size Guide
Cafetieres are measured by cup size e.g. La Cafetiere Classic 3 Cup. However, this does not mean that this cafetiere will brew three full standard cups. Instead the '3 Cup' measurement refers to demitasse (small) cups, which are typically 120ml/4oz. So a '3 Cup' size cafetiere will make enough coffee to fill two standard cups or one mug.
| Size cafetiere | Approx. capacity | No. of full standard cups (180ml/6ml) |
No. of full mugs (300ml/10oz) |
|---|---|---|---|
| 3 Cup | 350ml/12oz | 2 | 1 |
| 8 Cup | 1000ml/35oz | 5 | 3 |
| 12 Cup | 1500ml/53oz | 8 | 4 |
The above table is only a rough guide. If you're still not sure what size cafetiere to go for, it's better to go for one too large than one too small. After all, you can always use a too large cafetiere at 1/2 or 3/4 capacity.
