It's important to tamp the coffee tightly into your filter basket to achieve an even extraction. Too loose will cause a 'channelling' effect where parts of the coffee cake become over-extracted whilst other parts remain under-extracted. Plastic tampers (often supplied with espresso machines) are too flimsy to tamp with enough pressure to ensure an even extraction.
This 58mm tamper will fit most commercial espresso machines and some domestic machines such as: Gaggia and La Pavoni. However, please measure your filter basket to ensure this tamper will fit snugly inside before ordering.
