A coffee grinder is a must have for any coffee lover. Not only do they help keep your coffee fresher for longer but they also allow you to select a grind most suitable to your coffee making needs.
FreshnessOnce coffee is ground it quickly loses its freshness. But if you have a coffee grinder at home it means that you can grind your beans as close to the time that you want to make a coffee as possible. Result - better tasting coffee.
| You will taste a marked improvement in your coffee if you switch from coffee brought pre-ground coffee to freshly grinding your own beans. |
The GrindDifferent brewing methods require a different coarseness of ground coffee. The grind a method requires is dependent on the length of time the coffee is in contact with water. For example, when making an espresso the water will be in contact with the coffee grounds for around 30 seconds and therefore this method requires a fine grind. Whereas, when making a cafetiere the water will be in contact with the coffee grounds for between 3 to 4 minutes and therefore this method requires a coarse grind.
| If your coffee tastes bitter, then your coffee may be 'overextracted', or ground too fine. Alternately, if your coffee tastes flat, it may be 'underextracted', or ground too coarse. |
