Cafetieres are measured by cup size e.g. La Cafetiere Classic 3 Cup. However, this does not mean that this cafetiere will brew three full standard cups. Instead the '3 Cup' measurement refers to demitasse (French for half cup) cups, which are typically 4oz/120ml. So a '3 Cup' size cafetiere will make enough coffee to fill two standard cups or one mug.
Use the above table as a rough guide - obviously if you have milk or cream with your coffee then it is going to go round that little bit further.
