New Ascaso Range of Espresso Machines
The idea behind the new range of from Ascaso is to bring professional standards to domestic machines at affordable prices. Ascaso have decided to focused on ground coffee, as standard, although machines can be converted to using ESE pods as well with an easy to install kit. As a result all their espresso machines are now fitted with solenoid valves.
What's a solenoid valve?
This is a special valve which removes pressure from the portafilter immediately after the espresso is brewed. This has two advantages: firstly it stops the portafilter from dripping once you switch off the pump, so you avoid over-extracted droplets falling into your cup. Secondly, it prevents a "portafilter sneeze", where the excessive pressure that remains inside a portafilter can spray hot, wet grounds all over should you remove the portafilter too soon after brewing a shot of espresso.

The Steel Range
As well as a solenoid valve, the Steel range of espresso machines have also been fitted with an OPV (Over Pressure Valve) and an improved steam wand.
An OPV regulates the pump on the machine to give a more consistent output of pressure and so great shots are more repeatable.
The steam wand has been enlarge and improved internally to make milk frothing easier. Extra holes have been added to the steam tip so the milk is spun around as you froth, giving it a much better texture.
